Pharmacy Technician Colleges – Online vs. Traditional

Pharmacy technician colleges are literally popping up all over the place due to the extremely high demand for this position.  With an increasing senior  population, the health care industry is booming, with no slowdown in sight.  What does that mean for you, though?

Well, if you’re just graduating high school or you’ve been recently laid off and you’re looking for a change, you should be seriously looking into going to pharmacy tech school.  These education programs run for a maximum of 12 months and a minimum of 6 months.  So, the classroom time commitment is low compared with other fields.

An associate’s degree in another discipline will take you at least 2 full years to complete and in many majors the job prospects don’t look nearly as appealing.  It’s almost unheard of that you could invest so little time in school and come out on the other end with such a great job in such a great industry.

If you’re searching for the right college, doing a little research online is a very good idea.  There are many accredited and excellent online pharmacy technician certification programs.  Also, you should look into local community colleges or even perhaps a traditional four year institution.   Many of the local colleges will have programs.

Choosing the right program is about finding how you’ll best learn the material and become a competent tech, how long the program duration might be, how much it’s going to cost you in total, and how you’ll pay for it.  In addition, securing a good internship while in school is extremely valuable.

Some people will have no problems learning these skills online, while others may need the special attention of the classroom and an accessible, knowledgeable professor.  Weigh all the factors and you’ll make the right decision.  Be honest with yourself about how you’ll make it all work and make sure that you place yourself in the right position for you.  This way you’ll become the best pharmacy technician you can be and move ahead in your career.

The pharmacy tech career path is a fast moving and lucrative one, and could eventually lead to bigger and better things down the road as well, like becoming a pharmacist or even going to medical school, who knows?  Shoot for the stars.

Financial aid and scholarships are available for pharmacy technician colleges, so definitely look into both of these options and give them a shot.  Hopefully you won’t have to spend a dime out of your own pocket and in 9 months you’ll have a brand new career.  Does that sound too good to be true?  It’s not.  So, get off the fence and starting doing something about your life path, right now.
